Maintenance Depot Driver
Full-time safety-critical depot driving role at Northern's Wigan TrainCare Centre, shunting and positioning trains, fuelling and replenishing units, and carrying out train preparation tasks. No previous train-driving experience is required and a structured training programme is provided.
Refueler Driver
Permanent night-shift depot role at North Pole Train Maintenance Centre, driving trains within the depot, replenishing fuel, AdBlue, water, screenwash and sand, servicing toilet systems, recording work in the maintenance management system, and supporting rolling-stock maintenance staff as required.
Seasonal Operator - Wigan
Fixed-term seasonal operational role supporting Rail Head Treatment Train operations. Full training is provided, including PTS and RHTT equipment-specific training. Duties include safe operation of RHTT units, locomotive readiness, basic fault-finding and depot support. Employer criteria include a clean UK manual driving licence, passing the railway medical, living within 45 minutes of Wigan depot, and availability to start in August/September.
Train Movement Apprentice (Formerly Shunter Driver)
Entry-level train movement apprenticeship at Southeastern's Victoria, Grove Park or Slade Green depots. Trainees complete classroom, modular and practical training with a Shunter Driver Team Leader before becoming competent to shunt and drive trains within depot environments, set routes and prepare trains for service.
